Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Susanna (Plummer) Swanson was a Maryland colonist.

Susannah Plummer was the third daughter of Thomas Plummer of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.[1] On page 2 of the will of Thomas Plummer, proved in 1694, Susanna was named by her father, "Susanna, the wife of Francis Swanson."[2] Here is an image of page 2 of that will:

The birth date of Susannah Plummer is not known. However, there are some touchstone dates that can help the researcher form an estimation of her year of birth. Francis Swanston Junior was a minor at the time of his father's death. He received his inheritance, Swanston's Lott, in 1683.[3] Certainly, Susannah was already married at the time of her father's death in 1694. Therefore, it can be estimated that Susannah Plummer and Francis Swanston were married between 1683 and 1694.[4] One of Susannah Plummer Swanston's daughters, Mary Swanson, was married in 1706.[5] A likely marriage age of 16 for her daughter could indicate that the marriage of Francis Swanston and Susannah Plummer occurred before 1690.
