Research Notes
See the disambiguation page for William Poes of eighteenth century Virginia and North Carolina for more analysis.
The lack of vital records for William, his parents, siblings, or children, and the lack of a Will for either William, his wife, or his parents, make it very difficult to identify his family group. Further complication is created by the seeming migration of William to Chatham County, North Carolina, where other men named William Poe also lived who were probably not part of his nuclear family group. At one point, almost the entirety of this bio was taken up by a discussion between two unknown individuals about the identity of William's parents. That text has been moved to the disambiguation page for William Poes mentioned above.
