Biography

Richard was born about 1738. He was the son of John Poindexter and Christian Gissage. He passed away before 1775. [1]

Richard and Captain Meriwether Lewis are 2nd cousins, one generation apart. Meriwether Lewis (August 18, 1774 – October 11, 1809) was an American explorer, soldier, politician, and public administrator, best known for his role as the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, also was the 2nd Governor of Louisiana Territory.
