Biographie

Avocat, fonctionnaire, écrivain et sénateur, Pascal Poirier est né le 15 février 1852 à Shédiac, Nouveau-Brunswick et a été baptisé le lendemain à Grande-Digue. [1] Son parrain était Grégoire Gallant et sa marraine Marie Poirier. Il est le douzième et dernier enfant de Simon Poirier, fermier, et de sa femme Henriette. En 1879, Pascal épouse Anna Lusignan, décédée en 1913. En 1915, il épouse en secondes noces Mathilde Casgrain, fille du sénateur Philippe Baby Casgrain et Mathilde Perreault. Pascal Poirier est décédé à son domicile le 25 septembre 1933 à l'âge de 81 ans. Il demeurait à l'époque au 189 Laurier Est à Ottawa. La cause du décès est thrombose coronarienne. Biography

Pascal Poirier (February 15, 1852 – September 25, 1933) was a Canadian author, lawyer, and the all-time longest-serving Senator.[5]

A lawyer, civil servant, writer and senator, Pascal Poirier was born on February 15, 1852 in Shediac, New Brunswick and was baptized the next day in Grande-Digue. [1] He is the twelfth and last child of Simon Poirier, a farmer, and his wife Henriette. In 1879, Pascal married Anna Lusignan, who died in 1913. On 9 January 1917, he married in second marriage Mathilde Casgrain, daughter of senator Philippe Baby Casgrain and Mathilde Perreault. [6] Pascal Poirier died at age 81 at his home on September 25, 1933. [2] He was living at the time at 189 Laurier East, in Ottawa. The cause of death was coronary thrombosis.

He was the first Acadian to become a senator on March 9, 1885. His house is the oldest in Shediac. [2]
