Biography

Nathanial is alleged to have born in 1792 per a late grave marker placed at Barber Ridge Cemetery in Monroe County, Ohio. This also names his second wife Miriam. The 1792 birth year on this stone was not once reflected during the 1830 thru 1870 U. S. Federal Census. Nathaniel was consistently enumerated as born after 1800 during the 1830 & 1840 U.S. Federal Census, and more specifically, about 10 years later in 1802 when his actual age was enumerated. The same late headstone indicates he died in 1876.

Nathaniel was married in 1824 in Harrison County, Ohio to Margaret Gatschall. Margaret passed away sometime before 1849. On 28 December 1849, Nathaniel Polin of Monroe County, Ohio, Mortgaged to John and George Moose all of the E ½ of the SE ¼ of S28 T5 R6. This was to ensure that he would perform his duties as Court Appointed Guardian of his own children. Those children named were George, Jacob, Samuel, Alexander, Howard, Rachel and Mary Ann.

Nathaniel was named in the administration of Jacob Gatschall, deceased, as guardian to Margaret's 7 minor children; George, Howard, Rachel, Samuel, Alexander, Mary Ann, and Jacob Polen. Three married daughters of Margaret "Peggy" Polen were additionally named in this administration as; Eliza, wife of James Barber; Mary, wife of John Smith; and Eleanor, wife of Jackson Baker.

After the death of Margaret, Nathaniel was again married to his wife Miriam. After this wife passed in 1863, he again married to his last wife Alvira
