Biography

Ann, the daughter of Richard Poling and Sophia DeWitt, was born about 1772 in Loudoun County, Virginia based on Census Records and her parents' likely location at that time. Richard is found there beginning in the 1772 Tax Records.

Ann Poland married William Poland on 2 February 1797 in Allegany County, Maryland. William's Will, probated June 1836 in Fairfield County, Ohio, indicated they had 12 children:

  1. Sophia
  2. Richard
  3. Martin
  4. John
  5. Samuel
  6. Daniel
  7. William
  8. James
  9. Rachel
  10. David
  11. Andrew
  12. Mary

William and a Henry West were each bequeathed land from a Hugh Lively. Hugh Lively mentioned no relatives in his Will and no relationship has been found between Lively, Poling and West. William later purchased Henry West's part. In 1825, William and Ann sold 10 acres of that land.

On 26 Nov 1829 Ann and her husband William Poling of Fairfield Co. Quit Claim their herediments in 10 acres of SE quarter of S18 T15 R16 to Martin Poling. This was her share of the land belonging to her father at the time of his death.

On 31 Aug 1841, Anna Quit Claims all her right in 124 acres to George Spangler. On 6 September 1841, Richard Poling and wife Katherine, William Poling and wife Rebecca and David Poling and wife Sarah and Andrew Poling Quit Claimed their rights in the same 124 acres to George Spangler.

By 1850, Anna had moved to Jay County, Indiana where she was living with her daughter, Rachel Ingle. Anna passed away sometime after that, probably in Jay County, Indiana.

A source for the imported death date of 1851 is needed.
