Biography

John was baptized in Madron Cornwall Oct 22 1827 his father is a miner and lived at Trewidden. His mother is named Hester in this entry instead of Esther.[1]

On 30th October 1848 he married Elizabeth Williams in St Just at that time they lived in Truthwall and he was a miner. In the 1851 census they have three children (3, 2 and 1 month old) they are living in Botallack St Just Cornwall and John is a tin miner.[2]

John Pollard and Elizabeth Williams and their children arrived in Melbourne, 12 September 1868, on the SS Great Britain. John and Elizabeth had one more child, Emily, born at Creswick in 1871. His father John and brother William had already arrived in Australia and we're living in Creswick. John snr arrived in 1855 and William 1858. They all continued an involvement in mining.

In 1889 John was declared bankrupt

  • "NEW INSOLVENTS.

John Pollard, of Drouin, contractor. Liabilities, £84 4s. 4d.; assets, £5 ; deficiency, £79 4s. 6d. Mr. James Connor assignee. Schedule filed at Warragul." [3]

He died in Drouin Victoria in 1890
