Biography

Alice Medic Pollard was born on 31.10.1899 at Kilkenny, South Australia, Australia to parents Henry Joseph and Mary Ann Pollard (nee Morgan). She was their 5th child and 3rd daughter.

WWII Fundraiser

At aged 15, Alice Pollard and 7 other children at Birkenhead, South Australia decided to raise money for the wounded soldiers of WWI. They formed a committee of which Alice was one of the secretaries. They decided to conduct a bazaar at the Birkenhead Methodist Church, did so without any adult management, and everything ran smoothly. They raised £11 for the Port Adelaide Wounded Soldier’s Red Cross Fund and presented it to the mayoress. This was reported in the Port Adelaide News on 30th July 1915.

Marriage

Alice married William (Bill) Roy Cormack on 21.8.1920 at Semaphore, South Australia, Australia.

Children

Alice and Bill had two children - Joan and Neil. When daughter Joan was born, they were living at Rose Street, Sandwell.

Largs Bay

Son Neil wrote the following information about his parents - “When my mother and father built our house on Allotment 42 (now No. 22 Rosyln Street, Largs) in the Hundred of Port Adelaide, it was the first house in the street. The road at that time was unmade. In fact north of Jetty Road there were only two made roads, viz., Harrold Street and Wigley Street. The only road north from Jetty Road to Osborne and the Outer Harbour was Military Road to Fort Largs, from whence it became the Outer Harbour Road.”

Death

Alice died on 25.7.1995 at Largs Bay, South Australia, Australia. She was buried at Enfield, South Australia.
