Biography

W.A.J. Pollock was a native of Onslow County North Carolina. He studied under Dr. Freeman in Wilmington, North Carolina and also in New York City under Dr. Beach. He practiced in Onslow and Lenoir counties. He retired to Kinston, North Carolina. Pollock's first wife, Olive Humphrey, died in 1850. He remarried to Rachel (Anne) Loftin sometime between 1850 and 1860. According to the Cyclpoedia of Eminent and Representative Men of the Carolinas of the Nineteenth Century, Anne and W.A.J had two children: William D. and Sarah. However according to family bible records, W.A.J and Anne had four children: William Shaderick, Sarah E., William D., and Serena Ardell.

Dr. Pollock owned and operated the Pollock Hotel in Kinston.

He may have owned the Cedar Point Plantation at New River.

Parents: John Pollock and Serena Wood; married June 7th 1798

Grandfather: William Pollock, who came from Scotland, settled in Onslow county and fought during the Revolutionary War. William served as Justice of the Peace and was a county surveyor.

Text from Father's deed record: "On June 4, 1864, John Pollock gave to his son, William A. J Pollock, negores named Candice, Dundee, Robin, Milla, Tone, a grey mare and colt, 3 cows and calves, 1 yoke of steer, 1 bed and furniture, saddle and bridle, and a piece of land of 400 acres called the "Foy Plantation" which joins Capps Field, to my son, Hanson's line, reserving use of this during my lifetime and no longer. June 4, 1834. Tests: James M. Watson, Hanson M. Pollock."
