Biography

She is a Polish princess married to a Russian prince. Children include Anna Mstislavna of Novgorod, Василий Мстиславич, Елена Мария / Helen / Elena Maria of Novgorod, Rostislava Mstislavna, Roman The Great, Agnez Kuthen, and Erzsebet Princess of Galicia (my ancestor).

Her ancestors were from the Kuman tribe of invaders that devastated central Europe in the 11th and 12th century. Her father was Kotian (about 15 spellings listed), a Khan of the Kuman. His paternal line were Khans for at least 3 generations: Togor / Тугоркан, Aëpa / Аепы, and Osen. Khan Kotian was also an ancestor of her son-in-law Prince Kotian, via his son Suthoi (also a Khan).

To be technical, Russia did not exist in those days. Her husband was a prince in the Novgorod Republic, which was a medieval East Slavic state from the 12th to 15th centuries. Founded in 1136, the Novgorod Republic dissolved in 1478. Its territory today is part of Russia and Finland.
