John Pomery was born on 1 Apr 1696 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay. He was a son of Ebenezer Pomeroy and Sarah King.[1]
He is called John (not Quartus) in an 1878 Newell Genealogy.[2]
NOTE: There is a much later Quartus Pomeroy marrying in 1776 a Rachel in Northampton, Massachusetts.[3] But this is almost two generations later.
Another argument for this Rachel's husband (and this Rachel's father) being John, not Quartus is the 1723 Northampton birth of Rachel daughter of John and Rachel.[4]
Further supporting the John-not-Quartus Pomeroy as husband of Rachel and father of Rachel Pomeroy who married Isaac Newell is "The Pomeroys of Northampton, Mass.," in NEHGR, 43, pp 41-42:
"Lieut. John4 Pomery (Ebenezer3, Medad2, Eltwed1) died June 4, 1736; married Rachel Sheldon, May 29, 1718. Children: ... [several including:] Rachel, b. April 14, 1723; m. Isaac Newell of Farmington, Conn."
This same article identifies his parents as Ebenezer Pomeroy and Sarah King, and that he was born 1 April 1695/6.
