Denzel Oda Pool, age 87, of Dover and formerly of Canton, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in Schoenbrunn Health Care Center at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health. A son of the late Samuel O. Pool and Sarah Goldie (Eckelberry) Pool, Denzel was born at New Matamoras, Ohio on Nov. 27, 1922. Following graduation from Lawrence High School at New Matamoras, He served as a member of the United States Navy from Jan. 1943 to Feb. 1946. He was a Aviation Machinist having been stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois and assigned to serve aboard the USS Intrepid. On July 27, 1949, Denzel married the Mary Ellen Brannan in St. Peter's Church in Canton and together and together the couple raised two children. Denzel was employed by the East Ohio Gas Company where he held the position of inspector and retired in December of 1985, following 37 years of service and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, New Philadelphia Congregation.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Denzel is survived by his loving family which includes a daughter Debra (Darryl) Swier of New Philadelphia; a son Scott (Chris) Pool and two sisters, Glandy's Hackathorn of Navarre, Ohio and Mary Louise Wiltshire of Canton, Ohio; a granddaughter Irene Pool; two grandsons Shannon (Laurie) of Warren, Michigan and Michael Pool as well as two great-grandchildren, Garrett Swier and Tora Wilson. Denzel was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kirkbride and a brother Harold V. Pool. Burial: July 10, 2010 North Lawn Cemetery, Canton Stark County, Ohio. ^[1]
