Biography

This line has been the object of confusion / debate among Pool / Poole researchers. Thanks to recent correspondence from Barry E Pool, I believe we now have enough references to resolve this "mystery". However, if anyone has evidence to support an alternative Profile, please let the Profile managers know, and we will be happy to work with you to resolve any issues (if we cannot resolve, we will include the alternative information in the Profile.

Help in further extending and correcting this bio will be sincerely appreciated. This bio was initially a combo of rough research notes, but as noted above, additional information and documentation from Barry E Poole, and Gary Dean Poole is noted.

We believe we have now established that this line descends from Gabriel Pool, son of James B Pool of Laurens SC in the "near term". A decade of work on the James B Pool line has (we believe) established that it is an "ECC" line of Poole / Pool , descending from David Poole who immigrated to the Eiizbeth City County area of Virginia in 1651 (having been sent to the Colonies by the British crown in hopes of establishing a wine industry in America to rival that of France).

Gabriel was born in 1860 OR 1862 (sources give alternate years, but same month and date). He was the son of Thomas Pool. He passed away in 1907.[1]

RECENT DNA testing of Barry E Pool, a descendant, combined with a check against other identified potential candidates (which were rejected due inconsistent dates and locations ) appears to confirm this link. Gabriel Pool of Laurens SC is known to be Y haplogroup G1a1 or G (F2885) using terminal SNP nomenclature. Barry E Pool has tested with 23 and me as Y haplogroup G (which is consistent with both James B Pool of Laurens SC and John Pool of Edgefiled SC DNA type).

It should be noted that Y haplogroup G DNA is very rare (around 2%) and ALL Poole /Pool men that have tested with G haplogroup DNA have been found to be closely related (all are believed to be part of the "ECC" or Y Haplogroup G line of Poole / Pool -- see FamilyTreeDNA Poole Surname Project, headed by Dee Barnes).
