Sarah Ann Pool was born in Feb 1838;[1][2] she was the daughter for Wilson Petty Pool and Ann Hood.[3]
In 1840,[4] Sarah Pool's father, Wilson Pool, was enumerated in the 1840 census and he was living in Jefferson County, Alabama as head of household with the following persons in his household (age range in years): a) males - 1 (20 - 30) [probably Wilson Pool], 1 (30 - 40) [unknown]; b) females - 2 (<5) [probably Mary Ann and Sarah Ann Pool], 1 (20 - 30) [probably Ann (Hood) Pool].
In 1850,[5] Sarah Pool's father, W. P. Pool, was enumerated in the 1850 Alabama State census, and he was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama as head of household, which included the following 9 "white" persons [probable names]: a) Males - 4 (<21) [William, James, Zachariah, & Thomas Pool, 1 (>21), 1 (18 - 45) [Wilson P. Pool]; b) Females - 3 (<21) [Mary, Sarah, Jane Pool], 1 (>21) [Anna Pool].
In 1855,[6] Sarah Pool's father, W. P. Pool, was enumerated in the 1855 Alabama State census, and he was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama as head of household with a total of 11 persons, as follows: a) males - 4 (<21), 1 (>21); b) females - 5 (<21), 1 (>21). Sarah would have been 1 of the 5 females aged under 21.
On 26 Feb 1856 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama,[7] Sarah Ann Pool married William Riley Hughes.
In 1860,[8] Sarah A. Hughes (age 23, born Alabama) was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama in the household of her husband, William R. Hughes (age 26, born Alabama), with their 2 daughters, born in Alabama, Julia (age 3) and Mary (age 1). William's occupation was a farmer; he owned real estate valued at $440 and personal estate valued at $695.
In 1880,[9] Sarah A. Hughes (age 42, born Alabama) was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama in the household of her husband, William R. Hughes (age 45, born Alabama), with the following Hughes children, all born in Alabama (age, sex): i) M. (20, F), ii) E. M. (19), iii) W. R. (17, M), iv) S. E. (12, M), v) M. J. (10, F), vi) P. B. (8, M), vii) H. B. (6, M), viii) L. H. (4, F), ix) B. V. (1, F). Sarah's father was born in South Carolina and her mother in Tennessee.
In 1900,[1] Sarah U. Hughes (age 62, born Feb 1838 in Alabama) was living in Coker, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama in the household of her husband, James [sic] R. Hughes (age 65, born Aug 1834 in Alabama), with her unmarried sons, born Alabama (age): i) Harvey R. (26), ii) Billie N. (21). Sarah and "James" had been married 44 years; Sarah had born 11 children, 9 of whom were currently living. James' occupation was a farmer.
In 1910,[10] Sarah A. Hughes (age 72, born Alabama) was living in Hughes, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama with her husband, William R. Hughes (age 75, born Alabama), in the household of their son, Harvey R. Hughes (age 36, born Alabama), with Harvey's wife of 8 years, Mary L. Hughes (age 32, born Alabama), and their 4 children.
Sarah Ann (Pool) Hughes died in 1918,[3] and she was buried next to her husband (same grave marker) in Bethany Cemetery, Coker, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.[2] Her death record states that she was 80 years old when she died, and hence she was born in 1838.
