Research Notes

I do not have a primary document on the birth year or place for George Pool. Early work by Researcher Ken Pool, and recent work by Audrey Pool, Joe Slattery, and Bill Avery all show consistent information. These are highly respected genealogist and are very likely correct, however I have no primary source to reference for this information..... Please replace this citation (secondary sources) with a more "solid" citation if you have one!

Published email from researcher Joe Slattery dated 2004 E mail from Joe Slattery 9/20/2004

George Pool was possibly born around the 1720's. He died in 1772 in Wake County, N.C. His wife was named Mary. They had eight or nine children: Lewis, married Catherine, died in 1809; Hester, married a Stevens; Elizabeth (no info.); William, married a Sarah or Elizabeth, then secondly a Rhoda, died in 1815 in Johnston County; Hardy, married Edith, died in 1813; John, may have died in 1810 (could be the father of my William H. who was born in 1789), George Jr., Edee/Edith (no info.), and maybe Mary.

email from Audrey Pool contains similar information 1. George POOLE b. 1717 d. 1773 in Wake County, N.C. Note: This is considered speculation by the compiler-Ken Poole?. (aep '98) George POOLE b. 1717 and Mary- Note: names fit with ECC, Norfolk and Wake/Johnston Counties, NC. (aep)

Notes

Note N38NOTE: THERE ARE 2 CHILDREN I HAVE OMMITTED BECAUSE I CAN FIND NO DOCUMENTATION THAT THEY EXIST. They are shown in several family trees as Middleton Poole and Alexander Poole, and I previously showed them in my tree also. I believe, but do not know , that it is a mix up between the George Poole in the ECC Poole line and a George Poole from a Scottish Poole line. I should emphasise that should such an Alexander. Some records show the Middleton Poole to have beenborn in GA , but I have no evidence that George Poole ever lived in GA. I keep this issue open, and will continue to look for any evidence that George Poole had these sons.
Here is a note from Audrey Pool on a George Pool in Granville sith a Middleton Pool living neaby (which is NOT the same as saying our ECC George Poole living in Wake or Johnston Co had a son George (AEP's entire note is included at the botttom of these notes)
Thee was a Middleton Pool living in Johnston Co NC in 1782 >>> this time does not fit with Middleton, son of William-- but would fit for a Middleton son of George ---

MC COY, *Middleton POOL, Willis LEGOGIN (?) - (perhaps LEGON or LEGRONE), Wm

Roy Poole writes :George's son, Hardy, marks the first time I see that name used, leaving behind all the Williams and Thomas' and most of the John's. George also had sons named Middleton and Alexander.
wtp note: so far I have not found any record of an Alexander who was a son of George -- so I have not included it here as "existance questionable" ... however, if I can find such an Alexander, it would be most interesting
a note posted at ancestry.com reads, in part (wtp note, included here for follow up)
Lived on lower Virginia, Isle of Wight County until about 1741 when
migrating to North Carolina. At this time living in Craven County and
later Johnston County about 1761. This became Wake County in 1771.

Descendants of George Poole
1. GEORGE ( UNPROVEN)1 POOLE was born in 1712 in likely Johnston or Bertie Co, NC . He died in 1773 in Wake CO, NC. Wife Mary Atchison was born about 1710 in dates inconsistent. She died after 1758.
notes from Roy Poole, August 2012
George Poole born in Johnston Co. or possibly Bertie Co., NC ca. 1717 (So could George be the common ancestor?)
George's son, Hardy, marks the first time I see that name used, leaving behind all the Williams and Thomas' and most of the John's. George also had sons named Middleton and Alexander

Audrey Pool note from 1998.
Witnesses of will: James P. PETERS; Burrell BATTLE
Land divided by: Burrel BATTLE, James PETERS Jun., and Joshua SUGG Jun.
Note: This Hardy POOL had a plantation and slaves. William was to receive the plantation and the land was to be divided between the sons. The daus to be taken care of as their needs demanded.
*HARDY, SUGG(S), PETERS, POOL(E) and BATTLE are all Isle of Wight County, VA surnames.
Note: I have added some research to what KEN POOLE sent to me. The will of HARDY POOL is in my possession. These appear to be the POOL(E)S of Isle of Wight, VA. (aep '98)

Bill,
There is a George POOL 73 yrs old on the census, b. 1797. If Roy is correct and his furthest ancestor is a George…well, this census
gives us reason to believe he could be on the right trail!
In my Granville Grant book of NC, there is a George POOL, 13 Jan 1761, on the Neuse River - 540 acres - a John POOL
is the CB. Men had to be a certain age to hold land, but looks like George easily fits this rule.
Thomas POOL, 1 April 1863, also on the Neuse River - Joining George POOL and Middleton POOL is a CB. Yes! These
records sure look like the ECC families - not having an ‘e’ or not, has no real bearing on the name, but it looks good to me that
he name that early doesn’t have an e.

I am looking for a source document that links George with his father William and his siblings John, Thomas, Mary... He is not mentioned in any land transactions and a similar George obtained a land grant in Johnston NC in 1760

If anyone still looking for early Poole connections, gimme a shout. Can easily link these 2 and many more early Pooles. They are a closely allied family to Stallings. …and neighboring plantations. —Mark S.
