Biography

John was born in 1775. He was the son of William Pool. His mother's parents (the swearingens) owned land in Rockville, Montgomery, Md was 30 miles north of Mount Vernon, VA on the Potomac, his grandfather settled his estate before he died 1767, so no probate will or 12 children mentioned.

No childhood or school existed after age 4, life was working 16 hours a day. Tobacco was replaced with grain crops on the northern Chesapeake and cities like Alexandria, VA experienced an economic boom from 1785 to 1800. Import and export jobs were created like loading ships and sailing to Europe and the Caribbean, this would explain the many stories like [[ Pool-4147| Charles Fenton Pool 1812 to 1875 who became a Ship Captain.

Many other Pool men of the multiplying family living 4 miles from Alexandria, VA this would be logical to work on ships; another local economic change were slaves replacing white farmers on the grain farms, people like William Pool who died 1795 his plantation was 12 acres.

Three events occurred after 1795, 1 being the invention of the cotton gin created King Cotton and a high tariff economy that only ended by 1940; another was the 1795 Battle of Falling Timbers that ended the Ohio Indian wars.

Both of these facts were neighbors to 1789 or the new federal government that required raising tax revenues and investment funds to pay war debts answered by 2 words race and space today known as the great western expansion.

William Pool left Washington, MD after 1805 to Fallowfield, Washington, PA his eldest son John joined the family by 1810 and was a single man. How do we know this?

His sister [[Pool-4698|Genevieve J Pool married John Herring of Fairfield, OH 1807 and another sister Elizabeth Ann Pool married Silas Burt of Washington, PA 1808. The family was moving west, his father purchased government land 1814 and 1816 in Belmont, OH. John married 1818 Fairfield, OH and younger brother Samuel 1818 Guernsey, OH.

Family 6 sons and 1 daughter.

Pool-3134 and Poole-794 appear to represent the same person because: My mistake, I asked you about this 2019? and you rejected the merge, however

since then for example familysearch has added Fairfax, VA taxes 1782 to 1794 online; 1785 lists William Sr and William Jr plus Peter and Thomas. 1788 William Jr moves to Washington, MD see 1790 and 1800 Census, he is on the 1804 Tax Lists and moves to Washington, PA the 1810 US Census shows 3 sons for William and 4 daughters; 1 son 10 to 16 (Samuel) 1 son 16 to 25 William III and John 26 to 44, his actual age about 34. William Jr purchased 2 section of land 1815 and 1816 Belmont, Ohio signed William Pool of Washington. PA see BLM Land warrants. Their is a more information.
