Joshua Pooler was born in 1792 in Vermont, the son of George and his second wife, who's name remains unknown. He married Mary "Molly" Sturdevant (1792-1857) on February 23, 1812, in Bennington, Vermont.[1] They had at least seven children:
He died in 1842 in Indiana[2] at the age of 50.[3]

The legend of his marriage to Molly Sturdevant was - Joshua was as poor as a proverbial Church mouse, he eloped with Molly in the middle of the winter, he put her on a hand sled, with a pillowcase of clothes, he pulled her across the state of Vermont, her parents never did forgive her, they wanted her to marry into money, they had a little money themselves."
