Research Notes
Birth Notes
The Quaker document titled "Wm Pope & Marie his wife their Childrens Nattivitties" states that John was born "the 6th of the 8 mo 1670". When properly converted from the pre-1752 Quaker date to Gregorian, the date given for John's birth is 06 Oct 1670. This conversion takes into account the fact that the first month of the year was March (not January) at that time, and the first day of the year was in the middle of March (not the first day). Also taken into consideration are adjustments for leap years.

Prior to this merge, the profile page for John Pope (Pope-1970) showed the following incorrect information-
Date of birth shown as 06 Aug 1670. The erroneous date appears to have been the result of incorrect date conversion from pre-1752 Quaker to Gregorian date format.
Year of marriage between John Pope and Elizabeth Powell was shown as 1684 in the vitals, and as 1700 in the Biography. Records cited in Marriage & Family (above) demonstrate that they were married in 1695.
In the Biography, it stated that John and Elizabeth, his wife, "had one child during their marriage." John's will, abstracted and cited in Will (above), demonstrates that he and Elizabeth had six children.
