Biography

John Pope was born October 3, 1762, in Virginia and died July 14, 1834, in Rutherford county, North Carolina. John married Penelope Taylor, and is the father of Nancy Taylor, who married Benjamin Freeman. [1]

On April 30, 1853, in Rutherford county, North Carolina, John's son-in-law, Philip Watkins, applied for a Revolutionary War pension based on John's Revolutionary War service. Philip indicated that Penelope (Taylor) Pope died July 14, 1850, at the age of 78 years, in Cleveland county formed in 1841 from Rutherford and Lincoln Counties. Philip also gave supporting documentation for their children. Philip was the husband of Penelope Pope, born 1860. [2]

Mary Jane Silevant married Jesse T Pope, born 1850 in North Carolina. Definitely not the mother of this John Thomas Pope. See also: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pope-9919
