Jemima ( known as Minnie) Pope was 18 when she arrived at Lyttleton on March 16 1860 on the ship 'Clontarf'. She had travelled under the assisted immigrant scheme as a Domestic Servant.
In 1865, Jemima married to Joseph Wallace but the marriage didn't last. Joseph remarried in 1896 to Emma Matthews of Oamaru.
Jemima remarried, in 1869 to Barnabas Battersby of Enfield in the Waitaki district. They settled to married life at Enfield where they farmed their property. Twelve children were born during the marriage.
In 1904, Jemima was widowed when Barnabas passed away after an illness.
She never remarried and died in 1913 at her home on Torridge Street, Oamaru aged 73. She is buried at Oamaru Old cemetery.
