Biography

  • Williams parentage is only supported by the location in the Cutcombe parish register. There are no other obvious Popes in the register during this period. John and Mary Pope have a family during the period 1706 to 1720. Williams record is damaged and illegible only Mary's name was read and the date year. His date fits the gap in his sibling? baptisms.

Notes

  • Baptism,
There are a number of candidates on various genealogical sites all electing for 1706 But
William Pope to Mary in 1709 baptism in Cutcombe, date illegible, seems the most sensible.
I am sure that both the following are incorrect.
William born 1706 in Cutcombe to a Jane Pope he was base born. He died in 1707.
William born 1706 in Luxborough. I cannot trace as the records that I can find do not go back far enough .
  • Burial
There are 2 William Pope deaths in Cutcombe in 1790 and 1802 i have used 1790 as the most likely. This has been marked uncertain.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with William:

I have been trying to track Williams parents for quite some time. There a posibility that his parents were John Pope and Mary ( Hawkins )?????????

Married abt 1704/5. all the children were born in Cutcombe between 1706 and 1720 I can find no info for either. If I am correct one of the children William 1709 went on to marry Joan Matthews Other children were John 1706, Mary 1714, Susanna 1717,Robert 1720, Arthur 1710

I to came to the conclusion that 1709 is the most likely date,

In the Somerset parish records it say's illegible date but is between the other dates of 12/2/1709 and 19/3/1709, there are no other dates in between. There is another William born to Jane Pope 5/1/1707 and died 14/1/1707 just 9days old, this William was base born
