Biography

George A. Pope, son of Alexander and Nancy Adeline Pope, was born about 1856 in North Carolina. He appeared on the census of 4 July 1860 in the home of his parents at Cumberland, Cumberland County, North Carolina.[1] He appeared on the census of 13 July 1870 in the home of his father and step-mother at Halls, Sampson County, North Carolina.[2]

He married Susan Elizabeth Hawley, daughter of Thomas James and Susan Catherine (Williford) Hawley, [3][4]

He was a farm laborer when he and Susan appeared on the census of 7 June 1880 at Mingo Township, Sampson, North Carolina.[5]

George seems to have died before 1894, when Susan married John W. Williford.
