Thomas was baptised on 16 Apr 1750 at St. Kew, Cornwall, England. He was the son of Thomas Pope and Elizabeth Perry.[1]
His 1st marriage was to Joan Vercoe on 13 Dec 1785 at Bodmin, England. Both Thomas and Joan signed their names in the parish register and she was "of this parish" while he was of "the parish of St. Kew". Witnesses were R. Vercoe and Benjamin Pearce.[2]They were the parents of 4 sons.
His 2nd marriage was to Ann Aze on 8 July 1793 in Padstow, Cornwall, England. Thomas was "of this town" and widower while Ann was a spinster "of Instow, Devon." Thomas signed his name while Ann made her mark X. Witnesses were Caleb Boney and Jonathan Hodge.[3]They were the parents of 2 sons.
Thomas was a "merchant and shipbuilder at Plymouth" and especially in Turnchapel in the parish of Plymstock which means that by the time of his and Ann's 2nd son Joseph's birth in 1803, they had moved from Padstow, Cornwall where their 1st child, William was born in 1794.[4]
Thomas died July 1809 in Turnchapel in the parish of Plymstock, Devon and was buried July 20th in Plymstock.[5]His death was confirmed in a biography written about his son Rev. John Pope in a collection including various other Pope relatives who were Wesleyan ministers.[6]
