James was born in 1885. He was the son of Davault Pope and Elizabeth "Betty" Fisher.[1]
He worked in a cotton mill in Cherryville, North Carolina, eventually becoming an overseer.[2][3]
He was married twice. He first married Etta Bridges in 1902.[4] She died January 11, 1918, and he married Georgia Anne Cline on December 31st that same year.[5]
He died of a heart attack at his home in Cherryville, NC in 1957.[17] He is buried in Cherryville City Cemetery.[18]
