Edward Popham of Huntworth, Somerset was born by 1530.
He was the son and heir of Alexander Popham of Huntworth, Esq, and his wife Jane Stradling, and was elder brother to Sir John Popham, the famous judge who presided at the trials of Sir Walter Raleigh and Guy Fawkes.
Edward sat in Parliament for various boroughs controlled by his family, without distinction.
He married Jane Norton, daughter and heiress of Richard Norton of Abbotsleigh, Somerset.
They had 7 sons (including Alexander Esq; Capt George Esq (the pioneer settler); Ferdinando; and Thomas), and 9 daughters (including Sarah, wife of John Court; and Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Ford).
Edward died on 24 Jan 1586, leaving a will (dated 21 Jan 1685/6, proved 27 April 1586) and a widow (whose will was dated 2 Jan 1587 and proved 13 Jun 1610).
