Biography

Born about 1711 Edward Popham was the eldest surviving son of Francis Popham and his wife and cousin, Anne Popham. [1]

Educated at Christ Church, Oxford, Edward succeeded his father in 1735. Worth an estimated £6000 per annum the estate was said however to have been excessively encumbered. [1]

In 1738 he was returned to Parliament as member for Great Bedwyn at a by-election to replace Robert Murray who had died. [2] Then, in 1741, he was returned for Wiltshire, a seat he held until his death. [3][4]

His wife was Rebecca Huddon by whom he had two sons and a daughter. [1]

Edward died on the 14th of July 1772. [1]
