Mahala Porch was born around 1822 in Georgia to Sherrod Porch and Celia Buce.
[1]
Mahala married her cousin's widower, Samuel Gray, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama on August 21st, 1842. They were wed by William Cox, Justice of the Peace, and Joseph Johnson served as surety for the marriage bound.
[2]
In 1850 the Grays farmed in Tallapoosa County's Township 20, and their real estate was valued at $1500. In addition to their nine children (five presumably from Samuel's first marriage), a 35-year-old Matthew Springer served as overseer and lived with the family.
