Biography
Geoffrey Morehead Porter was born on 10 October 1854 and was baptised on 10 December 1854 at Madras, India[1]. He was the son of Robert Tindal Porter and Maria Eliza Brassey.
He joined the Royal Engineers, 1873.
He married Fanny Llewelyn Minchin on 17 February 1881 in Berhampur, Madras, India[2]:

- PORTER-MINCHIN.- At Berhampore, on the 17th February 1881, by the Right Revd. Warner Bottley and the Revd. S. Morley, Geoffrey Morehead Porter, Lieutenant, Royal Engineers, to Fanny Llewellyn Minchin, youngest daughter of C. N. Minchin, of Berhampore.[3]
They went on to have five children, one of whom died young.
He was formerly Master of Her Majesty's Mint in Calcutta and Bombay. He superintended the introduction of bronze and nickel coinage into India. In 1892 he attained the rank of Captain with the Royal Engineers.
In the England and Wales Census of 1911, Geoffrey Morehead Porter (aged 56) was recorded as a visitor at Tanton's Hotel Bideford, Bideford, Devon, England. His occupation was recorded as Retired army officer.
Geoffrey was employed on lines of communication in France (1914-17). He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with the Royal Engineers.
In the 1939 England and Wales Register, Geoffrey M Porter (aged 85) was recorded living with his wife Fanny L Porter (79) at Petersgate, Appledore Road, Tenterden, Kent, England.

Geoffrey passed away on 24 October 1944[4]. His Will was proved on 16 May 1945 at Carmarthen to Harold Henry de Baillou Monk, retired Major H.M. Army and Cecil Herbert Porter, solicitor[5]. Effects: £3134 19s. 9d.
