Gladys Mary Porter was born on 16 March 1889 and was baptised on 2 April 1889 at Long Ashton, Somerset, England[1]. She was the daughter of Geoffrey Porter and Fanny Minchin. Her birth was registered at Bedminster, Somerset in the 1st quarter of 1889[2]. Her father was a Captain in the Royal Engineers.
In the 1901 England Census, Gladys Porter (aged 12) was recorded as the head of the household at 1 South View Cottage, Ilfracombe, Barnstaple, Devon. Also in the household were her two sisters Gladys Porter (12) and Eileen Porter (9) and Nancy Porter (3), Barbara Muller (50, Governess in Charge) and two servants.
She married Lieutenant-Colonel Hugh Francis Eardley Childers, CIE (the son of Florence Leslie and Colonel Spencer Eardley Childers) on 25 February 1911 in Rangoon, Bengal, India[3].
Sadly her husband Hugh died in Myanmar on 27th September 1941.
Her father Geoffrey died on 24 October 1944, and her mother Fanny passed away in 1949.
Gladys was on the ship Warwickshire when it departed from Liverpool, England on 12 September 1952 bound for Rangoon, Burma[4].
She passed away in December 1966.
