Rites Held For Mrs. Woodruff
Mrs. W D Woodruff, 74, member of a long prominent Chickasaw county family, who was active in her church and club work until illness forced her to retire, died at her home on route 1, Houston at 12:30 am, last Thursday.
Funeral services were conducted at 4 pm, Friday from the Amity Baptist Church with the Rev. Leslie Dodson and the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Interment was in the Houston Cemetery with Houston Funeral Home in charge.
Active pallbearers were: Leon Martin, Gene Verell, E M Verell, Sam Parker, Gay Lantrip, and J T Bray.
Mrs. Woodruff, the former Miss Lattie Porter, daughter of the late Andrew Porter and Fannie Porter, was long active in the Amity Baptist Church and in home demonstration club work. She was a member of the Woodland chapter of the Eastern Star. She was born Jan. 15, 1889.
She is survived by her husband, W D Woodruff; five daughters, Mrs. Erma Young of Meridian, Mrs. Lucile Meeks of Loraine, Ohio, Mrs. Thelma Canon and Mrs. Doris Dacus, both of Memphis, and Mrs. Mildred Cheek of Augusta, Ga.; two sons, Elkin Woodruff of Houston and James Ralph Woodruff of Thomasville, Ga. Fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

Lattie was born in 1889. She was the daughter of Andrew Porter and Francis Gilliam. She passed away in 1963.
