Biography

Harriet Lucia Porter was born January 25 (or 26), 1907 in Minnesota, USA --possibly Pepin Twp., Wabasha County, Minnesota, where she can be found on the 1910 US census. "January 26" is what is written on her California death certificate. [1] Harriet's birthday is listed as January 25, 1907 in The Greenup Family by Elise Greenup Jourdan, p. 19, where Harriet is mentioned because her mother, Elsie Porter was born a Greenup.[2]

Harriet's parents were Frank Porter and Elsie Greenup. [2]

Harriet Porter can be found at the age of three on the 1910 US census for Pepin Twp., Wabasha County, Minnesota along with her mother, father, brother, and older half-brother, Melvin. Under marriage status, there is an "M2" next to her father Frank's name, an "M1" next to Elsie's name, and a '4' in the column for "number of years married" for both. The couple has been married for only 4 years, so the oldest son is likely from an earlier marriage for Frank Porter. Frank's occupation is listed as "Engineer", with further clarification: "Steamboat".

In 1911, Frank and Elsie Porter, Vernon (another half-brother), Melvin, Harriet and David crossed into Canada at Red Deer Sub-Districts 1-78, Alberta, Canada.[4]

Harriet "S" Porter can be found with her parents and siblings on the 1920 US census for Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. Closer inspection of the photocopied census image reveals that the "S" is actually an overly fancy "L".

NOTE- Alberta and Leona Porter were originally listed on the census with a birth location of "Canada", and immigration date of 1913. "Canada" was apparently later struck out along with the immigration year, and "US. Cit." written over the top. There are two boarders in the household also -- 30 year old divorced "Emma Prachey" and her 1 year old son, Wilbur Prachey.[5]

According to The Greenup Family', Harriet married Ruben A. Wilson, (no date or location given). [2] Ruben is identified on their shared tombstone as "Rev. Ruben A. Wilson, 1906-1993." [6]

Harriet P. Wilson, Ruben A. Wilson, and their children can be found on the 1940 census for Alameda, Alameda California. Ruben's occupation is "Church Pastor". Three sons, Ruben, Jr., Lewis and Everett, and two daughters, Alice and Noel are enumerated on the census.

Harriet is identified on her California death certificate (transcribed at FamilySearch.org) as "Harriett P. Wilson". (The "P" is apparently for her maiden name). She died on March 31, 1867 in Santa Cruz, California, United States. Her mother's name has been transcribed as "Grunup". [1] Harriet P. Wilson's Findagrave memorial page, which can be viewed at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/54525720/harriet-p.-wilson, has a photograph of the shared tombstone for Harriet and Ruben, and states that she was buried in Oakwood Memorial Park, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, USA.
