Biography

Samuel, s. Samuel and Mary b. 7 Oct 1755.[1] m. (1) Sibbel Munson (d. Obadiah) 8 Jan 1778.[1] She d. 5 Sep 1794.[1] He m. (2) Lucy Bronson, d. Deacon Andrew 22 Nov 1795.[1]

Samuel came from a family with a military tradition. His grandfather, Stephen Upson, was a Captain of the Train Band, and a Deputy to the General Court.[2] His great-grandfather, Isaac Bronson, was Sargent of the Waterbury Train band.[2] His father, Samuel Porter was called Captain in the birth records of his children.[1] Samuel, continuing the tradition, enlisted in 1776 as a drummer and subsequently several times as a private for short enlistments.[3]

He died at the age of almost 82 years old and is burie at Coventry Cemetery located in Coventry, Chenango, New York Find A Grave: Memorial #145361317

HIs Will goes into Probate on 11 Sep 1837. The executors are sons, Loren B Porter, Leonard Porter, wife Lucy, son Sheldon Porter, Sarah (sp), Lucy Potter wife of Thomas Potter, son Stephen Porter, Azubah Turnbull wife of Oliver Turnbull, Samuel M Porter his children, (Obadiah's dtr) Elizabeth Chapman wife of Charles Chapman and his grandchild who resides in Jefferson, Schoharie County.[4] and [5]
