Biography

Catherine Porter was born in Ireland about 1849, daughter of John Porter and his wife, Elizabeth Holmes. Soon after her birth the family moved to Glasgow in Scotland where her father set up as a provision dealer, living in Abercrombie Street. ^[1] Within ten years John Porter was dead. ^[2]

On the 5th of December 1873 at Govan, Cassa married John Bruce Mackinnon ^[3] son of Donald Mackinnon and his wife, Helen Livingston. By 1881 they had 2 children and were living in Shettleston where John earned their living as a corn clerk.^[4] By 1881 they had another son and had moved to Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire. ^[5] By 1901 John was dead and Cassa had moved to Bridge of Elliston with three of her children still at home. ^[6]
