Biography

Thomas Portington, esq. of Sawcliffe in Roxby, co. Lincs. (b. c. in or bef. 1493 - d. 1540),^[1][2][3] high sheriff of Lincoln in 1528.^[4][5]

Thomas is said to be the son of John Portington, but the identity of his mother is disputed.

Lewis (2004), citing Richardson, asserts that Thomas Portington, husband of Juliana Aske, was the son of John,[1] and grandson of Richard Portington & Julian Lesley.[2] ... Lewis ballparks Portington's DOB at c. 1477.[3]

Maddison (1904), asserts that Thomas married twice.

Ayscough

According to Maddison (1904), Thomas remarried to Anne (living 1574), dau. of Edward Ayscough.^[1] She apparently proved his will in 1540, and remarried to William Burgh of Kirton in Lindsey.^[4] She went on to outlive Burgh, and married for a third time to William Wentworth around c. 1562. Wentworth mentions her in his will that was dated and proved in May 1574.
