Benjamin Portwood was born in 1783 in Currituck Cty, North Carolina. His parents were Benjamin Portwood and Elizabeth Berry. He married Rebecca Ogletree on June 15, 1825 Together they had 1 child:
- David PortwoodHe married Mily Neighbors on November 25, 1836 He married Martha Perkins on February 23, 1808
He died in 1841 in Alabama
