Tom Poston was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1921. He served in WW2 and took acting classes upon his return. His first big break was being a part of Steven Allen's repertory company on Allen's eponymous show, and won an Emmy in 1959 for his work.
Other TV credits for Poston include a long run on Newhart in the 1980s and Grace Under Fire in the 1990s.
