DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Kevin or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Kevin:

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

HI, Kevin I rejected that unmerged match as it's clear the Alfred born in 1902 is not you. Hope you don't mind.

I am not sure what you men “ it’s clear the Alfred born in 1902 is not you”. I never meant to imply that. Alfred is my grandfather and I am new to this site. I added my father as a child to Alfred’s account with the permission of Joe Mantia.

HI, Kevin, an unmerged match means someone first proposed a merge and then someone else thinks the two profiles are probably the same person but maybe some fact needs to be straightened out so they set it to an Unmerged Match. Since your grandfathers dates aren't even close to your dates that's what I meant about "clear it's not you". Therefore the merge didn't need to go any further. The merge proposal could have been a mistake, anyway I cleared it out. I was just letting you know so you didn't think someone was touching your or your grandfather's profiles without your knowledge or a good reason. --Cindy

Thank you for the explanation. I will take a look and see what I did wrong.

So did I try to Merge Kevin Pothier with Alfred Pothier? If I did I am so sorry. Did I add my father correctly to my Grandfather then?

Hi Kevin!

Since you uploaded a GEDCOM, I wanted to give you the link to a tutorial that one of our mentors created that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

GEDCOMpare process

The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches. Once you have done this the data from your file will be filled in on the add profile screen so that you can review and make adjustments before saving.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments, or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there, you can leave a comment, or send a private message.

Hi Kevin!

We are so happy to have you here in the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration. Don't be afraid to ask questions in our G2G forum and get involved as much or as little as works for you. Be sure to check out the tabs at the very top right hand side of your profile, there is lots to discover!

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do!

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

I hope this helps! If you have any problems, let me know.

Happy tree climbing

Rhonda ~ WikiTree Greeter
