Alfred was born on 22 July 1842 at Kings Bench Walk, Southwark, Surrey, England. He was the son of John Lewis Potier and Elizabeth Ashley.
He married Emma Purvis, who passed in 1905.
He remarried to Mary Crotty in April 1907.
He passed away on 21 August 1929 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
