Biography

Elisabeth Pötter, the daughter of Henrich Pötter, was confirmed in Istha (then in the Landgraviate Hesse-Kassel and now in northern Hesse, Germany) in 1650 (see images). [1] Given that children usually received their confirmation at age 12-16, this implies a birth in the late 1630s. Unfortunately, there is a gap in the preserved church records for Istha from 1636 to 1638, and no baptismal record has been found for Elisabeth. On 2 December 1659 in Istha Elisabeth married Niclaus Clap (see images). [2] Elisabeth was buried October 1715 in Istha (see images). [3]

Children

According to local genealogist Lutz Breidert, [4] Nikolaus and his wife Elisabeth had a total of 10 children in Istha:

  1. Curt Clapp, baptised 12 March 1661, buried 6 May 1661
  2. Gertraud Clapp, baptised 31 March 1662
  3. Anna Catharina Clapp, baptised 3 February 1665, buried 21 January 1737
  4. Henrich Clapp, baptised 12 May 1667
  5. Jost Clapp, baptised 19 August 1669
  6. Anna Clapp, born ca. 1672, died 6 July 1757 at age 85
  7. Elisabeth Clapp, baptised 26 April 1674, buried 29 August 1711
  8. Johannes Clapp, confirmed 1692 (implies birth in late 1670s)
  9. Henricus Clapp, baptised 31 May 1680, buried 31 January 1685
  10. Hans Henrich Clapp, baptised 31 December 1682
