James was the second of three children of Robert and Alvina Widstrom Potter.[1]He spent his early years in Brainerd, Minnesota, where his father was a truck driver.[2] The family moved to Tempe, Arizona by 1935. In 1940, James had completed two years of high school and had been temporarily assigned to public emergency work that year.[3]
James is the father of Susan Potter Mullens.
James died at age 76[4] and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery[5] in Prescott, Arizona.
