Jurya (Potter) Alsup aka Alsop was born 1743 Goochland, Goochland, Virginia, and died 25 June 1809 in Knox County, Kentucky, United States. [1] Jurya married John Alsup on May 23, 1672, in St James Northam Parish, Goochland county, Virginia. [2]
Jurya's husband was a soldier during the Revolutionary War. He was a member of the Militia of Montgomery county, Virginia, under the command of Captain John Lucas. [3] John is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A215408. Applications form membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their daughter Sarah Alsup, who married Jeremiah Lambert. DAR records are found under the spelling of the surname as "Alsop," with the disclaimer, "As such, the DAR assigns a single standard surname that covers variant spellings of similar surnames. While the surname may appear incorrect, this does not mean it is in error. This spelling system ensures that patriots are not established under more than one spelling." [4]
