The source for identifying the Unknown Unknown wife of Henry Knowles as Elizabeth Potter: Stanwood Knowles Bolton in "Henry Knowles of Rhode Island and Some of his Descendants" NEHGR 87:359 (1933) stated: Henry Knowles wrote a will 2 Jan 1670 [1670/1?] that was proved 20 Jan of the same year. "His wife, whose name has not been found, was living wen he made his will, and may have been a daughter of Robert Potter of Warwick.

Why he made this statement is unknown. Robert Potter had two known daughters, Deliverance and Elizabeth, and perhaps a third daughter Isabel. But all three daughters are accounted for with other husbands.

Biography

At the suggestion of member Sara Rice [Rice-5349], I removed Henry Knowles as husband and the three children listed for that marriage, William, Mary, and Henry. This is the argument she gave for my doing this: "I think you have a problem here. I do not see any evidence that Elizabeth Potter (Potter-977} daughter of Robert Potter and Isabel married Knowles. However, there is evidence that this Elizabeth married Richard Harcourt/Harcutt. [http://www.antonymaitland.com/hptext/hp0306.txt https://archive.org/stream/genealogicaldict00aust#page/n329/mode/2up]

"I am suggesting that you remove Henry Knowles, since it lacks evidence to having married this Elizabeth Potter and replace it with: Potter-2049 because there is evidents to substantiate this marriage. Thank you"

Changed DOB on suggestion of Steve Selbrede Selbrede-2 who pointed out, "Elizabeth could not have been born in 1620 [the original date listed]. More likely she was born after 1630. Her father came to America in 1630 or 1634, perhaps with Elizabeth."

Before the input of Sara Rice, this was the family information listed: Henry Knowles married Elizabeth Potter in 1637 in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island, United States.

Do any of you know of any relationship between this Elizabeth Potter and Elizabeth (Potter) Harcourt? At least one biography (online at http://www.antonymaitland.com/hptext/hp0306.txt) seems to confuse the two.
