Biography

Note: This is a merged profile. Both tributary profiles agree that this Sarah Potts, born about 1740 to 1745, was a daughter of Thomas Potts Jr (1720-1762), however the identity of her mother is uncertain. Both Deborah (Rutter) Potts (abt.1710-) and Rebecca (Rudder) Potts (1721-abt.1752), who apparently were half-sisters, were spouses of Thomas Potts Jr., however the dates of their marriages vs. the birth date of Sarah are not readily apparent. Should evidence arise to clarify her maternal relationship, this profile should be edited accordingly.

Mentioned in her grandfather Thomas Potts' will of 1747 as inheriting "my riding mare and a side saddle," among other shares of his estate.

"I give and Devise all my Estate Real and Personal and the money thereby arising over and above the payment of my just Debts and funeral Charges, the Annuity and Legacy herein bequeathed to my said wife the Legacy bequeathed herein to my Grand Daughter Sarah, Daughter of my Son Thomas, and the sum of five hundred Pounds hereby directed to be put out to Interest unto Elizabeth Walker, Mary Clever, John Potts, Thomas Potts, and David, Potts my Children and Stephen Yorke and Edward Yorke my Grandson* s in manner following (That is to say) unto each of my said Children one Sixth part thereof, to Hold unto them & their respective heirs Exec or Adms forever and unto my said Grandsons the other one Sixth part thereof, To Hold unto them & their Excs or Adms forever as Tennants in Common to be eaqually divided between them. http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/philadelphia/wills/potts-t.txt

Sarah (Potts) Deweese died probably in 1767, in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Her online memorial represents that her grave is in Great Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, Devon, Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA [1].

Potts-2425 and Potts-2379 appear to represent the same person because: Both represent the same daughter of her father.
