  • Page 28: Monday, Jan. 25, 1731: "A Duel was fought on the new Walk in the upper Park at S. James's, between the R. Hon. the Ld Hervey, and the Rt Hon. Wm. Pulteney, Esq; who having closed in, after several Passes on both Sides, were parted and disarmed by Sir John Rushout, Bart. and Hen Fox, Esq; their two Friends who attended them. 'Tis said that the Ld Hervey had two or three slight Wounds, and Mr. Pulteney a small hurt in his left Hand; and that his Lordship gave the Challenge on account of Mr. Pulteney's being the reputed Author of a Pamphlet entituled, a Proper Reply to a late Scandalous Libel, call'd, Sedition and Defamation display'd."
