Research Notes
Surname / Last Name Spellings: In genealogy there is the use of putting an “s” onto the last name / surname. This has caused some problems with people that do not understand it, and they start new to genealogy and begin to use an “s” on the end of the family name. The reason for this “s”, is to show possession of a whole family: add -es or -s to write the family's last name in plural form. Add an apostrophe at the end to show possession. You will find in most genealogy documents the use of an “s” on the end of a family’s name. In most cases, you only have to add an s to the end of their entire last name—even if the last letter is y. So, the Smith family becomes the Smiths, the Angelo family becomes the Angelos, and the Perry family becomes the Perrys. In several of my own family lines, Kester is found as Kesters, Pound is found as Pounds, Bailey as Baileys, etc.
