Recollections by my Great Aunt - Eva Wood ( nee Powell) of her father :
" At 24yrs, Edwin was due to the Mission Field with his sister Florence and her husband (Rev George Clayton) who were missionaries in China. However, Edwin contracted tuberculosis and was too ill to carry this out.
Edwin was a monument Mason by occupation, when he lived in Edmonton, with his first wife Louie and their four sons (William, Frank, Cecil and Harold). Frank died at the age of 6 from peritonitis. Louie became ill and they all moved to Southend on Sea, Essex as she didn't like seeing tombstones around her in London.
Clara Maynard lived 6 doors away from them in Southend, and when Louie became too ill, Clara helped by taking Harold (4) and Cecil (6) with her each day when she went to the beach with a little invalid girl who was then, in Clara's care.
At the age of 38, Louie died. Harold was sent to Enfield with 'Aunt Eva & 'Uncle Arthur' and Cecil went to 'Aunt Polly' at Winchmore Hill. An 'Aunt Celia' came to look after the household.
After 2 more years, Edwin married Clara and 'Aunt Celia' was found a cottage in Rochford. Six more children were born (Arthur, George, Florence, Alice, Doris and Eva )
During WW1. Edwin, being too old for the army - joined the Volunteer Service where he was Sergeant. He and another local man were first on the scene when a German Zeppelin Airship L.32 was brought down in Jackson's Lane.
In 1924 Edwin with (Curry/Farrow) commenced Methodism in Billericay, building a school Chapel as a place or worship. The land for the school Chapel cost £2709 and it was opened 1 May 1926.
Edwin and Clara moved to 116. High Street, Billericay in 1935 as Edwin was now a Master builder and decorator. The Business was est 1919 after the WW1. The house was lost to a fire in 1956 and now a Waitrose superstore stands on the spot.
Clara was widowed at 56yrs old but did not receive a pension. Edwin died on 5th March 1939 at 6.30am in the London Hospital but later that morning his son (Arthurs) first child was born. (Marilyn)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edwin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edwin:
