Biography

Wm Powell, father of Caroline Patience Powell, was a younger brother of Apselia Powell. Wm was probably the third son born to Cader Powell (born 1750 Cader) and Patience Watson. Wm was killed in 1813 in the War of 1812, according to family research of the Patience Caroline Powell family. Mary Cox Powell, wife of Wm, then, after death of husband, married Wm Rushin. All of these related family persons--that is, Patience Caroline Powell, and her new husband Geo Cader Powell m. Mar 23, 1830, and Patience Caroline's sister Miranda Powell, (dau of Mary Cox 1st marriage to Wm Powell) and mother Mary Cox Rushin and step-father Wm Rushin and Patience Caroline's maternal grandparents Ichabod Cox and Mary Rowan Cox-- are found as members newly arrived (1829 for Rushins & Miranda Powell and Ichabod and Mary Rowan Cox) and 1830 for George Cader and Patience Caroline) into Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Taylor Co, Georgia. (See genweb archives.net, GA, Taylor County, Members of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.) In these same records, Benjamin Powell and wife Elizabeth, parents of George Cader Powell, have arrived in 1831 to join same church. There are three generations here of Cox/Powell/Powell family. And in the previous church membership records of Mt Paron in Crawford Co, Geo Cader Powell and new wife Patience Caroline, married in Mar of 1830, and Geo Cader's parents Benjamin Powell and Elizabeth, took letters of dismissal in Nov 6, of 1830, all on same day. Benjamin Powell and wife were originally early Baptists in historical Bodsford Church in Burke Co GA which church had become extinct partly because of events of the Revolution. They had moved to be with Geo Cader and Patience Caroline in Mt Paron church, Crawford Co, GA in Sept of 1829; then after marriage of Geo Cader and Patience Caroline Powell in 1830, the records would indicate that they followed also to Antioch Missionary Baptist in Taylor Co.
