Isaac was born in 1790 in Virginia. He was the son of Cader Powell and Frances Foote. He passed away in 1871. [1]
Genealogists dispute the lineage of Isaac's father.
Rev. Powell served as Methodist Minister and performed marriages in Wayne County, Kentucky from 1836-1861. He also served in the War of 1812. [2]
Isaac may have been born in Wise, Wise County, Virginia, United States (source?). He also was listed as having been born in Powell Valley, Virginia.[3][4]
Genealogists have generally agreed that Isaac was a son of Cader (Decatur?) Powell and Frances Foote but which Cader is still disputed. Cader Powell, the son of Cader Nathaniel is one possibility (source?). Cader Powell, the son of Jacob and Ann Powell is another (source?). Cader Powell, the son of Jacob and Julia Ann File Powell is another.[5]
John Dick Jr. was a close friend and neighbor of George & Elizabeth Randle Rogers, Isaac and Mary Small Powell, Bradford and Elizabeth Lair, Fleming and Elizabeth Gregory, Isham R. and Winnie Dodson Burnett, Charles and Malinda Higginbotham Baker & Frederick and Anna Foster.[6] Two of Isaac and Mary Small Powell's sons married Lair daughters. Another son married Nancy Dick. Isham was a cousin of Mary's.
A 12 Jan 1848 indenture between Isaac Powell and many of Thomas Small's children granted Isaac land on Big Sinking Creek in Wayne County, KY.[7]
In 1850 an Isaac Powell (60, b. VA, Justice Peace) headed a Wayne County, KY household with Mary Powell (59, b. VA) and Isaac N. Powell (20, b. KY, laborer). The household of William Powell (29, b. KY, laborer) immediately followed that of Isaac, while the household of Henry Powell (31, b. KY, laborer) immediately preceded that of Isaac.
In 1860 an Isaac Powell (70, b. VA, farmer) headed a Wayne County, KY household with Mary Powell (69, b. VA).
In 1870 an Isaac Powell (80, b. VA, farmer) headed a Wayne County, KY household with Mary Powell (79, b. VA), Jemima Dodson (24, b. KY, housekeeper), and Sigel Dodson (male, 2, b. KY).

I do have some notes on the Cader Powell family but most of them are pre-internet and on paper. One major source I used was the book Powell Families of Virginia and the South, by Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas Jr. He stops short at Jacob the father of Cader, not Decatur, because it continues to Lewis Thornton Powell who was hanged for his part in the Lincoln assasination. I focused mainly on the family of Isaacs' sister Mary (Polly) from whom I descend and her ancestors. Another source I used is Pike Co. 1822-1976 Historical Papers Number Two that has a short article on the Powells of Pike Co. which is where Cader was living when he died. I also have an ancestor chart of Frances Footes' family that someone kindly sent me ages ago. If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them. John
And do you have any descendant lines of the family tree?
