Biography

Arthur Herbert Powell was born on 18 September 1856 in Liverpool, Lancashire. ^[1] His birth was registered in the fourth quarter of 1856. ^[2] He was the son of Charles Powell and his first wife Marianne Wastall.

Arthur was christened with his sister Lucy on 9 November 1863 in St George's Church, Ramsgate, Kent.

His mother died when he was very young. In 1861, he was living with his widowed father and sister at his widowed grandmother's house in Ramsgate.^[3]

His father remarried in 1861. By 1871, the family were in Scawby, Lincolnshire.^[4]

In 1885 at St George Hanover Square, London, he married as his first wife Matilda Jane Hunt.^[5]

Arthur and Matilda had issue:

1. Dorothy Marian Powell
2. John Roland Powell

In 1917, he married as his second wife Janet Spens.^[6]

Arthur was Vicar of West Lulworth from 1918 to 1923. More information

In 1928 Arthur was living at 28 Nelson Street, Edinburgh. Arthur died on 28 October 1928. ^[7]
