There was no person as kind as Jim Powell. My mother had six children before they married, and Jim visited the home often, always bringing gifts to me and my sisters and brother. Mom and Jim liked to go to Newport to the Auction House, and Jim bought me a beautiful hand-painted covered compote made in Italy, that I still have. While a student at UT/Knoxville, he gave me sheep's wool gloves for my hands. I still have those as well. He gave me practical things, like towels as well. The difference was, Jim had an eye for beauty, and the things he gave me were always beautiful. Even the towels were floral design of pastel colors. He just seemed to know what I liked.
